The
lock stop refreshments is a small wooden cabin situated at the Greenberfield
Locks in Barnoldswick, BB18 5SU.
There is a
small car park for approx 15 cars which is used by different types of small
vehicles up to large van size, from the car park you can purchase a hot or
cold drink and order food. Hot or cold sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and
chocolate bars, tables are arranged outside the cabin, enough seatingm for 18
people if the weather is kind. If not there is room for 5/6 people to sit in
a small annex on the side of the cabin.
After
refreshments, you can stroll up the 20yard path which takes you to another
picnic benched grassed area, from there walk up to thecanal.
This
is the Leeds/Liverpool canal. There are 2 sets of locks which control your
descent towards Leeds.

Greenberfield locks are the highest locks on the
Pennines
. The scenery along the
tow path and surrounding area is very tranquil. There are numerous
families from young to old walk along the tow path to feed the duck
, then down to Kaz`s refreshments for ice cream.
Kaz has
spoken to the lock keeper and he says if we have a visit from our VRA family
he will open the side gate to the picnic field and the bikes can park onthe
wide hard gravelled track if the car park is full.

This
is now Kaz`s 4th week of business and like any new project you learn as you
go along.
I (Buffallobill)
have learnt how to wash up catering style, set out the plastic tables and
umbrellas, do the shopping run and odd jobs.
Kaz seems to
have a natural flare for the business and never seems to get flustered.
Or is she
like the graceful swan, serene above water but paddling like hell under the
water. If she is she doesn’t show it.
Back
to the area. the LOCK STOP REFRESHMENTS is situated between
Barnoldswick and Thornton in Craven, on B6252, there is a sign at the top of
the small lane directing you to the Lockstop, also a brown tourist
information sign directing to the locks,
As
members of the VRA we would like to see all our VRA family pop in for
a visit and maybe then we could have a ride out, along the rural roads of
the Dales, and Kaz would be pleased to see you all as she will be restricted
to how many meets she can get to seeing her trade is mainly weekends.
ROLL ON SUMMER and good ridings days,
To all our
VRA family, take care, safe riding and hope you pop in for a good chin wag.
Take care.
BILL AND KAZ .
