The Grand Ride Back From Wales
There I was in my new tent all snug and listening to the rain pitter patter on the
outside hoping none of the wet stuff would find it’s way in...this was at 6am and
I said to myself it’ll stop by 7...nope...it’ll stop by 8...nope...it’ll stop after
brekkie...nope...it’ll stop by the time we set off...nope but at times it did rain
alot heavier!!!!!!! It sounded like hammers landing on the warehouse roof-
After saying our goodbyes we set off in a convoy of about 18 riders, employing the 2nd rider dropoff system led by Billy Whizz and having TC as back marker and Swalla holding the rearguard behind the cars, we made our way home through the wet but beautiful scenery of Wales.....what seemed like an age we hit a town, afraid I can’t remember the name and we decided to have something to eat however, only McDonalds was open so shaking off the raindrops we went in and someone haggled for free coffees – I can’t remember who but they are a true hero...After scoff we set of in the rain again and lo after another time zone we hit, at last, the Chester services.
After a coffee and then the last goodbyes we all set off in different directions to our own towns/cities etc , I tagged with Skulls who I hope will forgive me for my motorway riding.....he peeled off at Brighouse and I made my way home to Bradford.
I have to say that ( and I’ve mentioned this elsewhere ) our convoy was without doubt one of the best rideouts I’ve been on as well as our rideout to Cardigan and St Davids where we met up and took over the village along with the foreign bikers......the 2nd rider dropoff worked very well, we all looked out for each other, and whilst at the back the staggered formation just looked awesome...maybe a few cars did try to spoil things but no problems apart from them.
After getting back I would also say that army gortex waterproofs kept me dry-
Well done to all in the convoy and we even got filmed by some bod in a layby, we were gawped at by loads of envious people and know that what we were on those rideouts is what being a biker is all about.........
Roll on Germany
And in the meantime ride safe and look forward to other weekends away......Moggy
