History.
Can’t say I was into bikes when I was younger although some of the gang I hung around with as a teenager had bikes and I remember going round the track at Oulton Park as a pillion.
Main interest is a totally different type of horsepower, the 4 legged kind. Currently have two, Bear who is retired and Beanie who I hope to do competitions on. Looking after these two plus the two Jack Russells and 3 cats means I can’t get to many rallies but I try and make sure I enjoy the ones I do.
I knew from the day we picked up Simons new 125, (it’ll be cheaper than a car) that the bikes would get bigger however didn’t realise a new bike would mean a whole new group of friends and some of the best times I have had.
My first rally was at Ashbourne, and my overriding memories of that weekend were my first experience of Swalla stood outside the tent wearing what can only as an overgrown romper suit, Sunny Bob going on and on and on about “in your face Metalflake!” but mostly about how nice everyone was and how welcomed I felt.
Since then I’ve been to Sweden, Belgium, been rained on, snowed on, nearly deposited off the back twice (Si says he doesn’t forget about the speed bumps on purpose but I’m not so sure!). I had the pleasure of being extremely drunk in the company of some of the nicest people you could wish to meet and just recently was dressed up as a medieval serving wench serving beer to VRA members from all over the world.
Been bitten by the bike bug a little bit myself, had a Kawasaki BN 125, which was written off and now ride a Honda 100cc scooter. Am going to take my bike test eventually and who knows might even have my own VN one day.
Oh and as for how I got my nickname, you will need to ask Jo Bloggs. All I will say
is that happened at my second rally, the End to End, and it is not because I always
wear flip-
Flipflop.
